This former rail
line was established along the pioneer river trail in.1873
and abandoned in 1988 . The Regional Municipality of Haldimand-Norfolk
purchased the corridor in 1991 as a possible route for future
water and sewer lines to Lake Erie treatment facilities.
The Lynn Valley Trail Association was formed in 1988 as a
lobby group to promote preservation of the route as a multipurpose
corridor including use as a hiking and nature trail.
Since 1992, many positive changes have taken place along
the trail, such as the addition of the benches and picnic
tables, barriers with pedestrian/ cycle access. Decking and
handrails have been added to the trestle bridges. Fencing
and signage have been upgraded and added as needed. The Lynn
Valley. Trail Association undertakes the maintenance and
care of the trail on a continual basis. |
